# Identity verification

> Verify your identity (KYC) so you can request and redeem tokens.

You need to verify your identity before you can file issuance or redemption requests. Identity and source-of-funds checks are handled by our verification partner, Persona.

## Verify your identity

**1. Open identity verification**

Open the **Profile** menu and select **Identity verification**.

**2. Start the check**

Select **Verify with Persona**. Persona asks for a photo ID and a selfie, and usually takes a few minutes.

**3. Wait for the result**

When you finish, the page shows **Your documents are submitted** and updates by itself once the check is decided.

If you leave partway through, select **Resume verification** to pick up where you stopped.

## Statuses

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Unverified** | You haven't completed verification yet. |
| **Verified** | Your identity is verified. The page shows the date it's valid until. |
| **Expired** | Your verification has lapsed. Select **Verify again with Persona** to renew it. |

If Persona declines a verification, you'll see **Persona declined this verification**. Select **Start a new verification** to try again, and make sure your ID is valid and the photos are clear.

## Business verification

Organizations go through a separate business verification (KYB). See [Create an organization](/issuers/create-an-organization).

> Until your identity is verified, your name shows **(Unverified)** in the app, and request forms show **Identity verification is required before filing a request.**
