# Signing keys

> Register a key on each device you use, and replace your recovery phrase.

Signing keys are what sign your decisions on Universal Mint: requests, approvals, and setting changes. Your session lets you view information; only a signing key can make changes.

## Find your keys

Open the **Profile** menu, select **Security**, and find the **Signing keys** card. Each key is labeled by type:

* **Passkey**: a key on one of your devices.
* **Recovery**: the key behind your recovery phrase.
* **This device**: the key on the device you're using now.

## Register another device

Register one key per device you sign in from, such as your laptop and your phone.

1. Sign in on the new device.
2. Go to **Security** and select **Register another key**.
3. Approve the prompt on the device.

## Replace your recovery phrase

If you think someone may have seen your recovery phrase, replace it.

1. Go to **Security** and find the recovery option on the **Signing keys** card.
2. Generate a new phrase and save it offline.
3. Confirm to replace the recovery key. The old phrase stops working.

## Why requests are signed on your device

When you submit a request or approve a proposal, your device signs exactly what you see in the confirmation dialog. The platform records that signature with the request, so it can always show that you, and only you, made the decision. See [How records work](/trust/how-records-work).
