# Request tokens

> File an issuance request to have new tokens minted to your wallet.

An issuance request asks the issuer to mint new tokens to your wallet, backed by an asset held with the token's custodian. Commodity tokens call this **Issue**; custom tokens call it **Mint**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Before you start, make sure your [identity is verified](/account/identity-verification) and you have a [verified wallet](/account/wallets).

## File a request

**1. Choose the token**

Open **Listed tokens** and select **Issue** (or **Mint**) on the token you want. If the button is locked, hover over it to see why. Some tokens only accept requests from specific investors.

**2. Accept the token's terms**

The first time you request a token, you're asked to accept its terms. Tick the required clauses and select **Accept and continue**.

**3. Choose a method**

Pick how the underlying asset is put into supply for this token, for example **Manual settlement**, where the asset deposit is confirmed by the issuer.

**4. Set the amount**

* **Commodity tokens**: you don't enter an amount. It's set when the custodian allocates bars to your request.
* **Custom tokens**: enter the amount, send the reserve to the address shown, and paste the transfer hash.

**5. Choose your wallet**

Select the wallet that will receive the tokens. Your primary wallet is selected by default.

**6. Add documents**

Attach anything you want on file with the request. If the token requires a signed agreement, enter the DocuSign envelope ID you received. The form checks that it's signed and matches your request.

**7. Review and sign**

Select **Submit issuance request**. Review the **Request details** and approve the passkey prompt to sign it.

## What happens next

**1. Backing is registered**

You arrange the deposit of the underlying asset with the issuer. Once the custodian holds it, the issuer registers the backing, for example the serial number and weight of each bar.

**2. The issuer approves the mint**

The issuer's approvers review the request. This can take more than one approval.

**3. Tokens are minted onchain**

The mint is signed and broadcast to the network, and the tokens arrive in your wallet.

**4. Done**

The request shows **Settled · tokens minted to your wallet**.

Follow each step on the request's page. See [Track your requests](/investors/track-requests).
